This data visualization project is an initiative of the UBC Centre for Migration Studies and is a searchable resource allowing users to explore the data based on their own interests and needs. It makes use of dashboards which are groupings of graphs, charts and information together under a main theme to provide an at-a-glance overview of metrics and trends.
The numbers used in the dashboards are drawn from publicly available datasets provided by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and are available on the Government of Canada’s Open Government Portal. Dashboards are updated monthly and provide information on Canadian immigration from January 2015 onwards for permanent and temporary residents in Canada.
As the Open Government website explains, these government datasets have some suppressed or rounded figures to prevent the identification of individuals and protect confidentiality. Values between 0 and 5 will appear as a zero and all other values are rounded to the nearest multiple of 5.
For guidance on how to search and create your own visuals within each dashboard view this online tutorial. This tool is free to users but please cite IRCC as the data source and the Centre for Migration Studies for the images.
